Thousands of people are being duped by a hoax circulating on Facebook claiming that those who share certain info on their pages might win $4.5 million of Facebook stocks.

Facebook says this claim is false and they are not giving away any of their stocks randomly.

Mr. Zuckerberg. $4,5 million Facebook pledge is a hoax.

Mr. Zuckerberg. $4,5 million Facebook pledge is a hoax.

The hoax started on December 1 of 2015 when Mr. Zuckerberg announced the birth of his daughter, Maxima.

In a Facebook post entitled, “A letter to our daughter” was announced that Mark Zuckerman and his wife would give away a huge percentage of their Facebook fortune to support good causes.

They pledged to donate 99 per cent of their Facebook shares – currently valued at $46 billion – and would leave $460 million for themselves and their child – based on Facebook’s current valuation – plus any private wealth held by the couple or future earnings beyond the social network.

It is not clear who posted the original hoax, but the site has since said the claims are untrue.

“Friends don’t copy and share those posts” Facebook site announced earlier this month.

“While Mark Zuckerman’s pledge to give money to improve the world is real, not everything you read on internet is true. Be safe out there, sweepstakes seekers”
