Trump wins South Carolina.

Last night’s decisive victory in South Carolina, Trump served notice that this is no longer a matter of whether he can make a serious run at the presidency, it’s now a matter of whether Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio can mount a serious challenge.

Donald Trump – with his Mexican border wall, Muslim ban, and red, “Make America Great Again” baseball cap in tow – is about to secure the Republican nomination, in what amounts to the surest sign yet that public sentiment no longer bears any resemblance to establishment politics.

The voters also delivered a devastating verdict to former Florida governor Jeb Bush, scion of a political dynasty who announced he was suspending his campaign after dismal results here. Bush came in a very distant fourth — not even eclipsing 10 percent — after he and his family made an impassioned last stand in South Carolina and his allied super PAC spent millions of dollars on advertising.

Trump leads the overall race for delegates with 55. Ted Cruz has 11 delegates, Marco Rubio has 10, John Kasich has five, Jeb Bush has 4 and Ben Carson has three.
