Worsley has attempted to be the first person to cross the Antarctic unaided.

Worsley, 55-year-old,retired from the British army having attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in October 2015 after a 36-year career, serving with the Royal Green Jackets and later the Rifles died after being airlifted to a hospital in Punta Arenas, Chile, suffering severe exhaustion and dehydration.

This is his final message on Jan. 22. “It is with sadness that I report it is journey’s end — so close to my goal,” he said

Mr. Worsley was airlifted off the ice — after covering more than 900 miles — and died at a medical facility in Punta Arenas, Chile, his wife Joanna said in a statement.

His military career saw him awarded an MBE for distinguished service on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan

Mr Worsley’s death is a huge loss to the adventuring world.
