“The air strikes targeted armed groups and warehouses that Russia believes belong to ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant),” said representative of Russian Ministry of Defense.

US Secretary of State John Kerry called his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and complained that this type of military actions runs counter to mutual agreement between USA and Russia to resolve crisis in Syria.

After talking to John Kerry minister Lavrov contacted UN Security Council and said that his country was ready to establish clear channels of communication with US State Department and NATO to ensure a maximally effective fight against terrorist groups throw-out the world.

Russian Federation Council backed Putin’s request for airstrike in Syria.

“The operation’s military goal is exclusively air support of the Syrian armed forces in their fight against ISIL,” said spokesman of Russian Federation Council.

Putin’s request came just two days after he suggested at the UN General Assembly to carry out air strikes against ISIL in Syria, but ruled out any ground operation in the country.

Russia’s powerful Head of Orthodox Church has reportedly voiced support for Putin’s decision to carry out air strikes, telling the Russian news agency it was a “holy battle”.
