Lamarr’s reputation as an inventor is based on her co-creation of a frequency-hopping system with George Antheil, an avant-garde composer and neighbor of Lamarr in California.

Back in the early 30’s people appreciated the natural beauty, so the crowd of men in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic lustfully looked at a young nymph, Hedy Kiesler, starring in the movie”Ecstasy.”

The old world learned a new name - Hedy KieslerIt was Hedy Kiesler who the first time in a major European movie was undress completely, and she even in one of the scenes of simulated orgasms.

The movie was banned, cursed, cut, but that did not matter. The old world learned a new name – Hedy Kiesler.

Millionaires and aristocrats tried to conquer her heart, and she made her choice – it was the manufacturer, an arms dealer, Austrian millionaire 33-year-old Friedrich Mandl. He made his fortune by selling the newest weapons systems to Germany in violation of the Versailles Treaty. Kiesler wrote that Mussolini and Hitler had attended lavish parties hosted at the Mandl home.

Newlyweds settled in a luxurious castle near Salzburg, they were surrounded by beautiful landscapes, thoroughbred horses, luxury cars. What else do you need in life? But Hedi was not enough.

She got bored at social events of her husband where his mingled with politicians, academics and businessmen.

Eventually she got seek of it all, and in the best tradition of Hollywood has run away to Hollywood.

To escape Hedi dressed in maid’s uniforms, and went through the back door.

Hello, America! Hi, Clark Gable! Hello, Hedy Lamarr! 1940According to another version, she persuaded Mandla let her wear at the reception all her jewelry, and later gave him a sleeping pill and fled the country, taking the jewels with you. She got divorced in Paris, and went to London, and from there – to New York. Hello, America! Hi, Clark Gable.

On the ship “Normandie”, it is sails from London to New York. She did not have to present herself in Hollywood. Her movie debut in 1933 was too loud to be forgotten by movie makers. However, in order not to provoke unneeded associations with here emancipated image, she was advised to take a pseudonym.

So Hedy Kiesler becomes Hedy Lamarr.

Right on the “Normandy” she signed a lucrative contract with the very founder of the MGM Louis Meyer. A new round of dizzying career unfolds. A total of Hedy Lamarr earned 30 million.

The star plunges headlong into a new life – movies, marrieds. Once, twice … Overall, Hedi had six attempts, and all the happy. Meanwhile, fascism devoured Europe.

Ms Lamarr took very close to her heart what happened in her homeland. Being Jewish, her father, a banker from Lviv, Emil Kiesler was married to Gertrude Lihtvitts a Hungarian Jew. Hedi often contemplated of her husband, a Jew himself who supplied weapons to The Nazi Germany. What’s might happened with him now?

And so, thinking about her husband, she recollected some conversations she witnessed at their home.

Mandl’s Laboratories worked on creating various types of guided missiles .

Hedy Lamarr realized that may be useful to her new country. She picked up the textbooks, notebook and pencil. And then happened the most incredible what you can imagine! It’s really that simple! How did they previously did not understand? Technology interference-free radio seems obvious: you just have all the time to change the frequency at random over a wide range, in some way by synchronizing the transmitter and the receiver!

Is not it amazing, but it was much harder to make the scientific community to believe that she was capable of not only a languid smile…

George Antheil, an avant-garde composer and neighbor of Lamarr in California

George Antheil, American composer in 1945 noted for his ultramodern approach to music.

Here there is not just beauty, but the woman whose inventions we use every day. The woman has invented what is now underlies the systems of GSM, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11. The woman developed the principles of encryption information uncovered permanent communication channels. Thanks to her, you are sitting in a network of Wi-Fi, without fear that someone else will use the same channel, because thanks to her technology «Secret Communication System» no one can “drive a wedge” in a communication channel (unless, of course, you do not have encryption disabled). Without the invention of Lamarr there would not use to the military satellites and cell phones, let alone the navigation system.

Yes, she did it all, the Hollywood movie starLamarr’s work was honored in 1997, when the Electronic Frontier Foundation gave her a belated award for her contributions. In 1998, an Ottawa wireless technology developer, Wi-LAN Inc., acquired a 49% claim to the patent from Lamarr for an undisclosed amount of stock
