USA journalist sentenced to Jail in Iran

Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian was found guilty in espionage charges and sentenced by Iranian High Court to jail for unspecified prison term.

-Serving a jail term is in Jason Rezaian’s sentence but I cannot give any details to the press, said Gholamhossein Ejei, Iranian government judiciary spokesman, speaking at news conference in Tehran.

Mr Rezaian, 39, who holds both American and Iranian passports, was arrested in July  of 2014 in Tehran and accused of spying against Iran and disseminating ” hostile propaganda against government and Iranian people”.

Most likely Jason Rezaian has become a pawn in faction fighting inside of Iranian political establishment over whether to establish more friendly relations with US or to continue regular course of hostilities.

It is also possible that Jason Rezaian is being held as a possible exchange for Iranian citizens held in US prisons.

Jason Rezaian trial and sentence are a sham, and he should be released immediately stated Washington Post’s foreign editor, Douglas Jehl in his editorial article.
